Guess What? It’s my blogger birthday! Shenanigans has officially existed for one year! I thought this might be a passing fad for me, last a couple of months and then fade into obscurity and disappear from my radar. Alas no, it has happily become a place to document my happenings and my projects. So yay! Here is to you blog, Happy Birthday (and really, any reason to buy a trophy cupcake and drink tea)!
Did you make a wish? I did.
I had a bit of an odd elementary school P.E. experience. Instead of your typical dodgeball games, I was busy jump roping, riding unicycles, juggling, and walking on stilts (all skills that have come in oddly useful in my adult life). Throughout this I developed an odd fascination with the circus arts. Now I’ve taken a couple of trapeze classes over the past few years (totally fun and I highly recommend them), but I have always wanted to give silks a try. Not wanting to make a fool of myself alone, I coerced my friend M into joining me. What can I say, we’re hooked, i’m already signed up for more classes.
Ta Da! I stood on some fabric. Ok, not that exciting, but I promise my arms have never been that sore in my life. It hurt to pull up my pants and tie my shoes for a week.
M demonstrating the most complicated skill we practiced…. ouch!
And me. Clearly I was in pain too.
Notice how my face is all red… That’s because I was hanging upside down trying to get into this move for a solid minute prior to this. 😉
I’m convinced that this kind of exercise is the only way to get my upper body in shape and I am itching to get to my next class this week!
Happy monday, i’m off to sunny California for work for a few days! Hope your week has started well!
Dear K had a birthday this month. Much to my joy, she flew back into town to celebrate. What better way to celebrate that dressing in 70’s attire and roller skating!!! It was like a trip back to my childhood, the sites the smell (all skating rinks smell the same), and I was happy to see the rink busy with families out for some saturday night fun.
We strapped on skates and got ready to roll.
Classy K and I.
Believe it or not, these thrifted pants have been a staple in my wardrobe for years.
L and I are a bit less classy, a bit more chaotic.
A bit blurry, but we could only make it around the rink once like this before our clumsiness got the best of us. I think i’ll leave the skating to the professional roller derby gals.
Post skating we headed out for some cocktails and confetti. What birthday is complete without some confetti 😉
I have been pulling glitter out of my hair for the past two days….
But K had a good time, so it was all worth it.
What did you get up to this weekend?
I walked in the park this past weekend. The Ballard Locks are about a mile away from my apartment and I am horrified to say…. I’ve never been. I tossed on my new little herringbone jacket (a sample I snagged from work), and coffee in hand, T and I set out.
The garden was a little bleak in early February, but I can’t wait to come back in the spring when there are flowers in those beds, and vines climbing the trellises.
Our walk quickly turned into a mini photo shoot, which quickly turned into jazz hands and a whole lot of laughter.
My favorite little purple wedges.
Jacket: Esquel / Pants: Zara / T-Shirt: Urban Outfitters / Shoes: Aldo / Back Pack: The Sak @ Nordstrom / Watch: Harry Ritchies
I love that I went to the locks, and didn’t take any pictures of water or boats. Guess I’ll have to go back and take more 🙂
Lately I’ve been….
Listening to– Kings of Leon. They finally won me over
Watching– The Winter Olympics! Speed Skating in particular.
Eating– Theo Gingerbread Chocolate. Goodness that stuff is amazing!!
Enjoying– Our snow day in Seattle! Now Seattle can’t really handle the snow, but there is just something so peaceful about that white fluff.
Looking forward to– An arial silks class next weekend with one of my dearest childhood friends! I love the circus, and all circus skills!
February has started with a bang. The Seahawks just won the Superbowl. I’m not a crazy obsessive fan. I really only watched a few games this year, but I am proud of Seattle and this city is blowing up with excitement. It’s given a much more exciting start to the month than I had in January, and will hopefully pull me out of my post holiday hibernation. January is normally a very mellow month for me. I try to spend it curled up on my couch drinking tea, and watching good movies. I did that this year, I just did it sick. 😦
Fortunately T provided me with with zinc, food, and Ricola throat drops. I curled up with Modern Family and a friends manuscript. Let me tell you, that manuscript is in it’s early stages, but she is going places and I cannot wait until she gets a book deal.
Lazy nights at dive bars. Mellow and excellent.
Part of my hibernation involved starting a new baby afghan for a friend. It’s turning out beautifully, and I can’t wait to post photos on here…. It may be awhile.
This was my first round of homemade tortillas on my own. I feel like I can finally put them in my recipe book as something I can successfully make! Slowly building my cooking repertoire.
Seahawks jello shots anyone…… a festive way to start any game.
Hopefully February continues on it’s winning streak. I’m not gonna lie though, I’m ready for spring!!!
