27 for 27โ€ฆ a Check In

Six months ago was my 27th birthday. Along with It I made a list of goals, here. Well I’m six months in to my 27th year, and I thought it was time for a check in… See how these goals are coming. Yikes!

IMG_0548

1) Hit under a 2 hour half marathon time. – I just started running again after a bit of a hiatus. I’m planning on running a half in October, so I’ve still got time to really start training.

2) Go sailing for the first time. – I still haven’t scheduled this. I was waiting for summer, it’s close enough, so I best get on it.

3) Pay off another one of my dreaded student loans. – I changed my mind and decided to pay off a credit card instead, and it’s going quite nicely. Hurray for being responsible financially…. until I find a really good pair of shoes anyway. ๐Ÿ˜‰

4)Host a 1920’s murder mystery dinner. – Planning this for my birthday party in November!

5) Start posting on my blog once a week. – As of January I have been doing this quite nicely. I like blogging on a schedule. It’s a relaxing way to spend my evenings.

6) Visit another country. Sadly other than Canada, I don’t have any great adventures to other lands planned. Canada counts right?

7) Buy my first pair of Christian Louboutin heels. – Still planning on this as my 28th birthday gift to myself.

8) Become a certified Zumba instructor. – I’m so excited, as i’m registered for training in July! Hurray!

9) Get my first aid/CPR certification. I haven’t scheduled this yet, but i’m planning it for either june or july.

10) Construct a wedding dress. – I’ve got it designed, and some of the fabric and trims purchased, now comes the tricky part of making it.

11) Go paddle boarding. – I’m still waiting for it to warm up a bit in Seattle. Brrrr. Maybe August?

12) Take a ballet class series. – I putting this goal on hold. I’m taking arial silks pretty regularly, and really only have time for one type of regularly scheduled class.

13) Visit K in New York. – I went last month, and it was awesome!! See my adventures here and here.

14) Attend my family reunion in Chicago next summer. The date is set, and i’m buying tickets this week. Cannot wait!!

15) Have my brown heels fixed. – I keep forgetting about this one. Must take shoes to cobbler!

16) Do a photo shoot of the bridal gown I make. – Just gotta complete #10 first!

17) Get to a certain financial goal in my savings account. – Going along quite nicely. I’m sticking to a schedule and making good strides.

18) Complete 10 new pinterest inspired recipes or diy projects. – Going along well. I’ve done 4 of 10. Or I should say, 4 have turned out well. I’ve had a few doozies.

19) Learn to bake French Macarons. I took a classย and have had one disastrous batch since. Hopefully my next batch turns out a bit better.

20) Get my second tattoo. I’ve altered it’s location a bit, now I just need to schedule the appointment.

21) Dye my hair a new color. I went white blonde and loved it!!!

22) Set up some sort of Roth IRA or 401K. – Ummmmm I forgot about this one, and I don’t even know where to start. Must research!

23) Refinish one piece of furniture. – So many ideas…. so little time.

24) Take a ariel silk class. – Took a class, became obsessed. I’m developing arm muscles… I didn’t know that was possible on me.

25) Take the BUSMAT. – Must study more. I’ve lost a lot of my math skills in the past few years!!

26) Go to at least two concerts. – I tried to get watershed tickets this year. I’m not going to lie, I almost cried when they sold out in 10 minutes. Now I’m not sure what shows i’ll go to.

27) Start taking more pictures of my various projects to put up on the blog! – I’ve been doing better at this, but still have room for improvement.

Clearly I’ve got a lot of work to do. Six months down, six to go. I better get my booty in gear.

#NYC Besties

I just returned from the lovely and chaotic week in NYC! My dear friend K moved out there last summer to pursue a job in publishing. She landed a new/amazing job a couple of weeks ago, so L and I flew out not only to celebrate that, but L’s 27th birthday as well. It was a week well spent with good food, good friends, museums, and shopping. I adore visiting New York, I don’t think I’d ever want to live there, but it is a fantastic place to holiday! I’ve already started planning my ย fall shopping pilgrimage to New York next fall.

Get ready for several days of photos crammed into one post.

The view from Brooklyn.

We only got lost a few times. Google maps is a lifesaver!

We went treasure hunting in Williamsburg. There were some excellent pieces, I don’t think any of the furniture was going to fit in my checked bags though, so I passed.

L and I popped over to the Highline on Easter sunday. Other than the fact that it was a bit crowded, I LOVE what they have done with the space.

If you get parched on the Highline, don’t worry, there are a few food/coffee vendors dispersed throughout.

Now this looks pretty simple, but if you are in need of a reasonably priced and delicious breakfast, pop into Jack’s Wife Freda. Eggs and Soldiers were my jam. It was so good, L and I went two days in a row. I am a bit distraught though as I think I was at this restaurant on one of the same days one of my favorite bloggers was, but different times. She took much better food photos, so take a gander at

Made the obligatory swing through Mood fabrics. I could certainly have filled up a whole suitcase full of those fabrics.

Maysville. Delicious whiskey bar (Shhhh, I drank wine). Enough said.

Steppin out on L’s birthday!

Baohaus was amazing!!! Go.

#NYCBesties quickly became our theme after seeing this written on the wall of Baohaus.

Fish Bao. It doesn’t look like much, but packs a real punch.

That was good.

New Do

Three hours in a salon chair… and I LOVE my hair!

Look, I’m so excited to have a head full of bleach.IMG_2421

It ended up being a silvery blonde with hints of pink and blue, and totally different than anything I’ve ever done to my hair before. I went in with four very different colors ideas, but after some assurance from my stylist at Vain (love that salon soooo much), we decided that I might as well try this while my hair is short.

DSCN0221 DSCN0222 DSCN0226

I attempt to take nice pictures, and then that get’s boring and this happens.

Thoughts? I love it, though I know doing this to my hair on a regular basis will destroy it, and the grow out is going to be horrifying. But I don’t care, it’s too fun! Happy Monday!!

Silks… and Not the Kind I Sew With

I had a bit of an odd elementary school P.E. experience. Instead of your typical dodgeball games, I was busy jump roping, riding unicycles, juggling, and walking on stilts (all skills that have come in oddly useful in my adult life). Throughout this I developed an odd fascination with the circus arts. Now I’ve taken a couple of trapeze classes over the past few years (totally fun and I highly recommend them), but I have always wanted to give silks a try. Not wanting to make a fool of myself alone, I coerced my friend M into joining me. What can I say, we’re hooked, i’m already signed up for more classes.

Ready….

IMG_2297

Set…

IMG_2298

Ta Da! I stood on some fabric. Ok, not that exciting, but I promise my arms have never been that sore in my life. It hurt to pull up my pants and tie my shoes for a week.

IMG_2300

M demonstrating the most complicated skill we practiced…. ouch!

IMG_2305

And me. Clearly I was in pain too.

IMG_2306

Notice how my face is all red… That’s because I was hanging upside down trying to get into this move for a solid minute prior to this. ๐Ÿ˜‰

IMG_2308

I’m convinced that this kind of exercise is the only way to get my upper body in shape and I am itching to get to my next class this week!

Happy monday, i’m off to sunny California for work for a few days! Hope your week has started well!

27 for 27

I turned 27 yesterday.

It was an excellent birthday celebrated with friends, rocking out to karaoke, eating trophy cupcakes, and drinking delicious cocktails.

This past month, as I reflected on my life at 26 and thought about turning 27, lots of things came to mind that I wanted to do, accomplish, and even buy during the next year. Now I know lots of people make lists of 30 things to do before they turn 30, but I don’t feel like waiting that long. So I compiled a list of 27 things to do, while I’m 27. It’s a smorgasbord things, some of which I think will be easily attainable, some of which are going to require some serious effort on my part. Honestly though, I do my best work under pressure, and need to have goals with deadlines in order to be my happiest. Who knows, if this goes well, maybe it will become a yearly tradition for me. So here it is, my 27 for 27 list.

1) Hit under a 2 hour half marathon time. I’m always just over 2 hours, perhaps if I actually train for one I can do it.

2) Go sailing for the first time. Never been, always wanted to go, and have a real reason to wear my Sperry’s.

3) Pay off another one of my dreaded student loans. Let’s all cross our fingers that this one actually happens.

4)Host a 1920’s murder mystery dinner. Who doesn’t love a good costume party?

5) Start posting on my blog once a week. When I started this, my initial goal was to post twice month, I think it might be time to step it up a bit. ๐Ÿ˜‰

6) Visit another country. Hopefully it will be Hong Kong again as I feel like there was still so much for me to discover/eat there, but i’d go just about anywhere.

7) Buy my first pair of Christian Louboutin heels. I’m thinking this will be my birthday present to myself when I turn 28.

8) Become a certified Zumba instructor. I fell in love with Zumba about 2 years ago. I realized I needed to become an instructor when I started mentally choreographing routines in my head at work about 9 months ago.

9) Get my first aid/CPR certification. This goes along with the above goal, but I think it is useful knowledge to have for anything.

10) Construct a wedding dress, and have it sold at a consignment wedding shop. I’ve been dabbling in the bridal design industry for awhile, and I think it’s time to test one of my designs in a real shop.

11) Go paddle boarding. Never tried it, totally want to. (but not until next summer…. brrrrr)

12) Take a ballet class series. I’ve always admired the strength and grace of ballet dancers, and it’s never to late to learn a new skill right?

13) Visit K in New York. This WILL happen, I miss my friend too much not to.

14) Attend my family reunion in Chicago next summer. This WILL also happen, and i’m excited to visit Chicago for the first time.

15) Have my brown heels fixed. I have this lovely pair of chunky brown leather heels that I wore into the ground, and then broke the strap on them. I WILL have them given new life this year.

16) Do a photo shoot of the bridal gown I make. This is contingent on me completing #10.

17) Get to a certain financial goal in my savings account. Boring I know, but practical.

18) Complete 10 new pinterest inspired recipes or diy projects. You know you do it too, you pin with the best of intentions, but does that lemon white chocolate strawberry layer cake really ever get made?

19) Learn to bake French Macarons. This one is actually already in the works, as I am signed up for a class at the end of November. I’m a wee bit excited!

20) Get my second tattoo. Don’t worry mom, It’s going to be small and I bet you won’t even notice it. ๐Ÿ˜‰

21) Dye my hair a new color. I’m thinking a nice dark auburn color.

22) Set up some sort of Roth IRA or 401K. Retirement plans are responsible right?

23) Refinish one piece of furniture. I have all of these lovely ideas, now it’s time to complete one.

24) Take a ariel silk class. Just another circus skill to add to my repertoire. What can I say, my elementary school P.E. class was oddly focused on circus skills. (I’m not complaining, they’ve come in handy at odd times in life).

25) Take the BUSMAT. Who wants to be my study buddy?

26) Go to at least two concerts. Perhaps I’ll trek out to Watershed this year, or maybe Sasquatch again, or maybe I’ll stick to concerts in/around Seattle. Either way, I need more concerts in my life.

27) Start taking more pictures of my various projects to put up on the blog!

Realistically, I don’t think i’m going to finish this whole list, or at least, I won’t be mad I myself if I miss a few. But I’m certainly going to try!

Here’s to you 27!
