Life, A Birthday, and Another Set of Goals

I’ve returned. Back from what was an horrible summer, followed by an epically sad end of September. I spent most of October in hibernation, and will likely be on a roller coaster of emotions for a good long while now. That said, I am trying to maintain some sense of normalcy in my life, do happy things, be with people I love, and still try new things.

Today is my birthday. I liked my set of goals last year, and while most of them went out the window, I’ve decided to set a new group for year 28. Some are carry overs that I still want to complete, and some are new.

Here Goes.

1)Watch the AFI top 100 of the 20th century.

2)Go on vacation out of the country – Hopefully get T to go with me. The boy needs to get some real use out of his passport!

3)Decorate a gingerbread house – I’ve never decorated one, sad but true.

4)This one is a secret project. Shhhhhh…..

5)Read 30 new books – I read a lot any way, I’m just going to actually track them for a year.

6) Reach a new Savings goal.

7) Qualify to start taking intermediate arial/silks classes or practice at open gym – This is an extreme long shot, but if I work my booty off (both literally and figuratively), it may be possible.

8) Be able to do one pull up… legit. Straight leg, dead hang start.

9) Cut my own Christmas Tree.

10) Pay off 1 student loan – Enough said

11) Decorate 5 different cakes, 5 different ways.

12) Get on some Zumba subbing lists.

13) Go to the tulip festival.

14) Read books 2 and 3 of the game of thrones series.

15) Complete 10 more pinterest projects.

16) Take a cooking class.

17) Be able to do the splits. At least one direction.

18) Go on a fitness or yoga retreat, or complete a fitness challenge

19)Post more project pictures on the blog.

20)Get a pair of Christian Louboutins (or Manolos).

21)Go on at least 2 hikes – And be outside more in general

22)Get my first aid certification – This has to happen before I can officially start teaching Zumba!

23)Make a wedding dress and have it sold at a consignment wedding shop.

24)Go paddle boarding.

25)Pay off a credit card.

26)Get my second tattoo – I have two planned, and then I think i’ll be done.

27)Do a leatherwork project.

28)Sew at least one project for myself – I make things for other people all the time, time to make something for me.

Here’s to you 28! Please take it a little easier on me this roll around the sun.

It’s a Cake!

I baked a cake… and took several pictures. It was the first time i’ve used my cake decorating tools on a full cake, so I was a wee bit excited that it wasn’t a disaster! It was both my parents birthdays recently, and I wanted something classic, but still pretty to look at. End result, classic yellow cake with chocolate frosting.

I picked up some sparkler candles to test out. They didn’t sparkle, much to my dismay. A new brand will need to be tried next time.  On a funnier note, they kept relighting as well, even after blown out. They weren’t advertised as trick candles, but they added some extra entertainment to the birthday celebrations.

I’ve been on a bit of a baking kick lately. Any thoughts on what to attempt next?

27 for 27… a Check In

Six months ago was my 27th birthday. Along with It I made a list of goals, here. Well I’m six months in to my 27th year, and I thought it was time for a check in… See how these goals are coming. Yikes!

1) Hit under a 2 hour half marathon time. – I just started running again after a bit of a hiatus. I’m planning on running a half in October, so I’ve still got time to really start training.

2) Go sailing for the first time. – I still haven’t scheduled this. I was waiting for summer, it’s close enough, so I best get on it.

3) Pay off another one of my dreaded student loans. – I changed my mind and decided to pay off a credit card instead, and it’s going quite nicely. Hurray for being responsible financially…. until I find a really good pair of shoes anyway. 😉

4)Host a 1920’s murder mystery dinner. – Planning this for my birthday party in November!

5) Start posting on my blog once a week. – As of January I have been doing this quite nicely. I like blogging on a schedule. It’s a relaxing way to spend my evenings.

6) Visit another country. Sadly other than Canada, I don’t have any great adventures to other lands planned. Canada counts right?

7) Buy my first pair of Christian Louboutin heels. – Still planning on this as my 28th birthday gift to myself.

8) Become a certified Zumba instructor. – I’m so excited, as i’m registered for training in July! Hurray!

9) Get my first aid/CPR certification. I haven’t scheduled this yet, but i’m planning it for either june or july.

10) Construct a wedding dress. – I’ve got it designed, and some of the fabric and trims purchased, now comes the tricky part of making it.

11) Go paddle boarding. – I’m still waiting for it to warm up a bit in Seattle. Brrrr. Maybe August?

12) Take a ballet class series. – I putting this goal on hold. I’m taking arial silks pretty regularly, and really only have time for one type of regularly scheduled class.

13) Visit K in New York. – I went last month, and it was awesome!! See my adventures here and here.

14) Attend my family reunion in Chicago next summer. The date is set, and i’m buying tickets this week. Cannot wait!!

15) Have my brown heels fixed. – I keep forgetting about this one. Must take shoes to cobbler!

16) Do a photo shoot of the bridal gown I make. – Just gotta complete #10 first!

17) Get to a certain financial goal in my savings account. – Going along quite nicely. I’m sticking to a schedule and making good strides.

18) Complete 10 new pinterest inspired recipes or diy projects. – Going along well. I’ve done 4 of 10. Or I should say, 4 have turned out well. I’ve had a few doozies.

19) Learn to bake French Macarons. I took a class and have had one disastrous batch since. Hopefully my next batch turns out a bit better.

20) Get my second tattoo. I’ve altered it’s location a bit, now I just need to schedule the appointment.

21) Dye my hair a new color. I went white blonde and loved it!!!

22) Set up some sort of Roth IRA or 401K. – Ummmmm I forgot about this one, and I don’t even know where to start. Must research!

23) Refinish one piece of furniture. – So many ideas…. so little time.

24) Take a ariel silk class. – Took a class, became obsessed. I’m developing arm muscles… I didn’t know that was possible on me.

25) Take the BUSMAT. – Must study more. I’ve lost a lot of my math skills in the past few years!!

26) Go to at least two concerts. – I tried to get watershed tickets this year. I’m not going to lie, I almost cried when they sold out in 10 minutes. Now I’m not sure what shows i’ll go to.

27) Start taking more pictures of my various projects to put up on the blog! – I’ve been doing better at this, but still have room for improvement.

Clearly I’ve got a lot of work to do. Six months down, six to go. I better get my booty in gear.

Life Lately

It’s been a busy week. On one hand, i’m thrilled for a break this week (laundry needs to be done), but i’ve had a pretty fun past few days, so it’s always a little sad when so many great events finish up.

Here’s a peek 😉

My dear friend Y turned 30. What better age to have a big bash, complete with bedazzled ball gowns and an adult appropriate piñata (supplied by me)! Just be sure not to put glass bottles in the piñata.

My birthday was last weekend too, and boy did we jam out to some karaoke!! Not gonna lie, T rocked some Johnny Cash (and a little Katy Perry).

I volunteered at an event this past week. If you ever get married, I highly recommend the Get Hitched Give Hope Gala. They have some fantastic wedding packages available for auction, and all the money raised goes to an awesome charity. During our down time, the organizers suggested we partake in the delicious cocktails and appetizers (Ha, like they really had to twist our arms)!

I also attended a Junior League event. Now i’m not a member of the Junior League, but I have a friend who is, and when she mentioned that their annual bachelor auction hosts were Jason and Molly Mesnick, I jumped at the chance to snag her extra ticket! I’ve been a fan of the Bachelor for years now, it’s my guilty TV pleasure (I don’t even feel guilty a little 😉 ) That aside, the event was a hoot!

I’m working on a new hairstyle…. It’s a variation on a mohawk. I sort of love it, but I can’t wait until the length gets a bit longer in back. Thoughts?photo 5 (1) photo 2 (5)

Lately I’ve been….

Listening to– Christmas Music. I manage to hold off until November 1st each year, though I usually start craving those joyous tunes in October.

Watching– Parks and Recreation…. Aziz Ansari makes me giggle 😉

Eating– Whole wheat carrot applesauce muffins. Not kidding, they are amazing, and taste way better than I was expecting them to. Recipe found here:

Enjoying– That glorious fall chill. I finally put on my mittens this week and it was wonderful. Bonus, I hear there is snow on my parents side of the mountains. I believe there will be a snow angel or two in my Thanksgiving future!

Looking forward to– Thanksgiving! I have been scouring pinterest for recipes for my assigned Thanksgiving duties. I’m planning on an apple pie (my usual), a sweet potato bourbon bundt cake, and an appetizer of some sort (any recommendations).

Happy Monday!
