Shenanigans…. Portland Style

May has been a month. Really busy, but in a good way. One of those months where you get to see so many friends and do so many things that things like laundry and grocery shopping get pushed to the wayside. That said, I spent a fabulous weekend on Portland two weekends ago. A dear friend of mine is just finishing up her masters at PSU, and a few of us felt the need to celebrate her awesomeness with a weekend of good food, dancing, and shopping, three of my favorite activities.

After a late arrival and a quick drink friday night, we were ready for some fun on saturday. This started with a simple but delicious breakfast at Portlands Meat Cheese Bread. Nothing fancy, but I don’t need fancy as long as it is good. Breakfast burritos, coffee, and good company.

Next came the shopping. I give credit to K, R, and K for sticking around whilst I shopped. I can shop with the best of them, and love to try on clothes for hours on end. Fortunately we had set a busy schedule for ourselves, so I couldn’t bore them for too long. After lunch at the farmers market, a viewing of The Great Gatsby, a dip and drink at the Kennedy Hotel (go, it’s awesome), and we were ready for a night out.

Who doesn’t love a good shot out of a mason jar?

And we danced, and we cried

And we laughed, and had a really really really good time

Crawling into bed in the wee hours of the morning, we were in no state to be seen by the population the next morning for breakfast. Problem solved with homemade beignets and mimosas for brunch.

Brunch was delicious, and exactly what we needed to pull ourselves out of our sleepy stupor. After brunch R had to study, so the rest of us ventured out for a walk in the park.

We spent the rest of the afternoon wandering downtown, perusing Powell’s, and enjoying the sunshine. K had to head home in early afternoon, so for dinner just K and I grabbed a bite at Canteen. It’s a vegan cafe, and it’s delicious! I’m not a vegan at all, but in my opinion, good food is good food, and I don’t need animal products to enjoy it.

I had the Bangkok bowl and a Post Standard juice, and let me tell you, it was delicious! K had the Portland bowl and the Ginger Berry smoothie. It’s not very spacious inside, but I would love to go back for a summertime lunch on their patio.

We spent a lazy sunday night eating ice cream and watching Save the Last Dance. It was an excellent weekend, and I cannot wait for my next trip! I leave you with one last photo, my favorite shopping finds of the weekend.

Isn’t that book cover beautiful?
